About me

That's not me in the photo, but would I love to do that! As it is, I'm just the Chairperson for the Lyon Township Park Advisory Committee, and to be honest, I'm also a big kid at heart. When I started thinking about what to add to our park, I thought immediately of BMX. Now, the last time I rode BMX, I think I was 10 and my brother converted my Schwinn street bike to something I could take on the track across the road. I vividly remember the thrill of the jumps, the wind in my face, and the police officer telling my dad we were trespassing. Thankfully the memory of the concussion is fading, but the experience is still fresh after 28 years. If you think about it, my experience has all the elements of what NOT to do. If we had a track in our community, kids wouldn't have to sneak onto private property, they would ride properly outfitted bikes, and they could rent safety gear. The idea of starting a track has been knocking around my brain for about a year, and now it's time to get your opinions. Tell me what you think, and I'll take it to the Township powers that be. My goal is to get a track up and running by the 2009 season--just in time to get my kids into it.

Next Steps

  • Generate list of people willing to be part of the non-profit organization to run the track.
  • Generate list of people who would ride at the track.
  • Generate list of bike shops or businesses that would support the track.

Do you want a new track in the area?

Let's get started...

I made a presentation to the Township Board on Monday, and they all seemed interested in starting a track in New Hudson. Now we have to find people who want to ride and parents who want to be part of the organization to run the track. Feel free to comment here and complete one of the online surveys (links above). Email your friends to let them know what's going on, tell your local bike shop what we're doing, and look for an article in the South Lyon Herald next week.

I love the Idea that there may be another bmx track in MI. It has provided my family and I so much time together, has taught my children that it is not always about winning or losing but rather having fun.
I personally have been involved in bmx for 25 years and have seen great things happen in the bmx world, which I feel will only get even better with the sport now becoming an olympic sport.
My family, team, and I will do anything we can to help you in you endeaver on opening a new bmx track. Thanks, Todd Ditch

Todd Ditch (see previous post) is a class act and would be a benefit to any BMX organization. He and I have bumped bars on the track a few times and I get to talk to him regularly at the Michigan NBL State Championship series. He loves BMX. He is a great family man. I really feel like we can't lose in this effort. I started racing BMX in 1979. I want to race in New Hudson in 2009. I know we can make this happen!

Sounds great I would be willing to help out. I know my son would be interested also. We need to get information out to local bike shops with the web site to see how many people would be interested.
